CO2e Emissions reporting for UK Water

The BlueSkies Web App water data KPIs for a single location very clearly displays the monthly rising water usage when compared with 2021.

This is not surprising as the location is a medium sized stadium which was lightly used during covid lockdown until spectators returned for the new season.

The water usage is in-line with pre-covid records so nothing to see here?

The Tonnes CO2e emissions 13 month review appears to contradict the rising water usage for this location.

The same location reports reduced CO2e emissions from water used

In fact several Lobby Displays, including the demo account for Gotham School, show very significant reductions in CO2e emissions that don’t appear to align with the data from revenue meters

These massive reductions in CO2e emissions are a result of a change reporting emissions multiplier for UK potable water and waste water.

Carbon Counter applies the appropriate CO2e emissions multiplier to every cubic metre of water used by a site.

The sum of the potable water and waste water CO2e emissions multipliers was 1.052 kg per cubic metre of water up to 31 July 2021.

From 1st August 2021 the same water CO2e emissions multipliers are reported at the new, much lower emissions multiplier of 0.421 per cubic metre.
